The sun is up, though not by much, and a ways off from us there’s a spray plane with headlights on. I’ve never seen that. It’s cool, the plane silhouetted against the not-quite-bright sky and the very bright lamps on its nose.
It’s the seventh day of school, and it’s already hard to get people up in the morning. (We also learned today that the bus will be early on Fridays, so good thing they did in fact get out of bed.)
The first full week of school is when we conquer all the things — or at least this year it is. School and fall sports photos, check. Football scrimmage, check. The exfusion of cash for things like the season pass and the boosters membership and the restock of groceries that I intentionally planned to not buy for two and a half months and the multiple pairs of shoes that have yet to arrive, check. The reminder of how I need to brush up on parent-y small talk, check. The walking-through of certain types of homework, check.
I’m signed up for two bus trips, shorties, in September. No idea if any of my kids are on these trips, but there’s roughly a 5/13 chance, ha. Also I get to go on the fourth-grade field trip to the state fair, so that’s super cool.
Freelancing is usually feast or famine. Interestingly, through the summer, I’ve been really balanced. Right this instant, I need to not sleep for the next three days to get everything done. It’s all good. If it’s going to be 100 degrees outside, I may as well be working indoors. There’s enough breeze that the grass is pretty dry so I can finish the last little bit of mowing this morning before I sit some more.
I had a couple minutes to reflect while I was waiting on the coffee to brew. Psalm 90 was part of it (“from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”). Had a moment’s exchange with a friend I’m supposed to meet up with today. Was again amused by the near-literal double degree difference between here and Greenland (though I’m relieved our forecasted temps, while still high, are moderated slightly).
The quote “Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits” — I was going to go ahead with the usual attribution (Pooh) but it turns out that’s probably inaccurate, as is typical with the most prolific of Internet quotes on memes. That argument is best left to the real researchers among us. As for me, I like that in “Anne of the Island” it is said by the postman’s wife who also says, “Jog along, black mare.” Much like her route that day, my thought on mowing is — “O’ course it’s rather tejus.”
Over and out, friends. Have a great Friday and a great weekend.
