Brad Heil (1982-2021) was a husband, father, son, brother, friend, businessman, custom harvester, and a huge supporter of agriculture. He was a 2005 graduate of Kansas State University, but he never stopped learning. Through both hands-on and classroom education, he learned about mechanics, accounting, finance, customer relations, ag economics, commodity marketing, networking, real estate and much more. He was an advocate of ambition and entrepreneurial spirit who championed both friends and strangers who were working hard to better themselves and the world around them.
Our group of family and friends wishes to continue to support the young people in our communities, just as Brad would have. The Bradley Heil Memorial Advancing Agriculture Scholarship is intended to recognize the efforts of at least one applicant who intends to commit his or her future to advancing agriculture in some manner. An eligible applicant is anybody who is going to college or trade school with ag or ag-adjacent career intentions, or a student who has started or plans to start an ag or ag-adjacent business.
The scholarship could be awarded to future farmers or ranchers, but it could also be awarded to future welders, fabricators or repair shop owners; future farm equipment engineers or crop geneticists; future health-care providers, for humans or animals, who intend to practice in rural areas; future truck mechanics or implement dealership salespersons; future farm accountants, ag economists or commodities brokers; future high school ag or shop teachers; future food engineers, ag lawyers, or ag journalists … . The possibilities are endless in agriculture.
The requirements of this application are as follows:
- Your name and contact information (no grades, scores, resumés or transcripts are required)
- Information about your education and/or career intentions
- Contact information for two potential references (no letters of reference are required)
- Either a brief essay of 10 to 30 sentences or a video of up to two minutes (not both) explaining the who, what, when, where, why and how of your interest in agriculture.
